The Padre José Eichelberger Elementary School was founded in Guaíba on May 2, 1972.
Its founders, educators Zilá Jardim and Waina Alencastro Barbosa, gave the School this name in honor of the parish priest in Guaíba for many years - José Eichelberger - a great friend of the founders and highly esteemed by the community.
It was the first private school in the municipality to be opened with all the necessary official permits at the time. It started its activities in the same year as the Borregaard industry, today CMPC Celulose, receiving in its first class several students from Norway (Borregaard's country of origin), as it already had an English teacher.
In the first 19 years of operation, it was exclusively dedicated to Early Childhood Education classes. As of 1992, it began to gradually implement Elementary School, Early Years and then Final Years, expanding its service capacity.
There are several generations of families from the municipality and neighboring municipalities who attend Padre José Eichelberger. And it is absolutely essential to develop our training profession in an integrated way with the students' families: without their support and understanding of our pedagogical proposal, we cannot carry out the work at the level we propose.
We greet each student as a new member of the Padre José Family, reinforcing our desire for family-School union.
Through these 47 years of operation, the School has never changed its orientation, maintaining excellence as a goal and seeking continuous improvement.
Today, Padre José Eichelberger is one of the most traditional institutions in the community, and its brand is synonymous with qualified education, acting in the community and safety.

A Bandeira da Escola foi confeccionada por uma ex-aluna da Escola, Renata Bressani, na década de 90, durante uma Gincana Escolar. Assim ela explicou sua criação: “ Foi criada nas cores verde e branco representando as cores da Escola, como diz o Hino: O verde é nossa cor, simboliza a esperança, o branco é a paz, a mensagem da criança" .
As linhas diagonais formam um teto, ou seja, a proteção que a Escola nos dá, e as linhas horizontais representam o chão, ou melhor, a base que nos é fornecida, a forma final resulta em uma casa. As crianças estão em duas cores, remetendo às diferenças que todos temos e mostrando que todos somos tratados de forma igual e respeitosa pela Escola.
Todos estão unidos pelas mãos para mostrar a união, e as duas crianças pela metade significam a continuação e o crescimento da Escola, com crianças que já passaram e irão passar por aqui; por fim a planta nas mãos de duas crianças significa o crescimento de corpo e mente, ou seja, o nosso futuro em evolução.”
